Any experience or knowledge of men's Liberty External Male Catheter by BioDerm?

My husband has urinary incontinence 24/7; wearing Depends; doing the basic Kegels. This follows blockages, 2-1/2 months Foley indwelling catheter & after removal total incontinence. Has anyone tried this device or know anything about it? Guess I'm clasping at straws.

I would suggest he give them a try. My husband really liked them. Recently got an AUS. Life changing.

My own experience leads me to suggest he skip intermediate options and go direct,y to the Artificial Urinary Spinchter. I had terrible incontinence for two years following my RP. I did thousands of Kegals, went to a Urinary Incontinence Specialist and learned new exercises. Had minor improvement. Even after seeing the Specialist I was using 8-10 depends per day and wearing them until they were soaked.

I didn’t think I wanted the device in my scrotum so first opted for a Male Urinary Sling. I was assured I was a “perfect candidate” in spite of having had follow up radiation treatments. BIG MISTAKE!!!

Surgeons often “forget” to warn of the negative aspects of the procedure.

I lost over an inch of penis length. NOT GOOD!!! Further, my incontinence didn’t improve much. I was still burning through 5-7 soaked depends per day.

Finally decided to try the AUS. The results are FANTASTIC! Now I have NO LEAKAGE!

NOTE: If I had known it would be impossible to remove the Sling due to tissue in growth, I would never have taken the risk and would have gone directly to the AUS. I’m happy that the incontience is gone but very disturbed about the loss of length.

1. Make sure you know what is the underlying cause.

2. I have used external male catheter. Not the product you mention but they are all pretty much the same. You roll it on. It has a mild contact glue on the inside that helps with sealing. You roll it off. They come in sizes, get the one for him, it's important to get a good seal, but not tight. Recommend shaving around penis base - hair can break the seal and cause discomfort when removing. The tip connects to a leg bag like an internal cath. Very simple, easy to use and effective. It allows much more freedom. They cannot be worn 24hrs/day. Willie needs a bit of air, maybe 6hrs/day. Guard against fungal growth. One is good for 18hrs. I found that a foley irritated my bladder and caused it to spasm. Very debilitating, painful and no help with incontinence. The external catheter was literally a relief.

Long term, the gold standard when all else fails is an artificial urinary sphincter. It does require an operation and anesthetic, a couple of nights in hospital and couple of weeks of easy convalescence, turn device on in a month or so.

Avoid urinary slings.

Best wishes!
