My husband has had prostate cancer since 2004. In the. Last 2 months the pain has come back, so he has added dilaudid (when needed) to the fentanyl he has been taking for over a year. Last night he showed me a small hard mass(1 1/2 in long by 1/2 inch wide 3 inches below his belly button. He has no pain with it. He does have an AUS, but this mass seems to be too high to have anything to do with it. He told me he would call the doctor today, but decided not to because he doesn’t want to go in to the doctors or hospital. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?
Thank you.

Hi Craigslife .... I’ve got quite an assortment of those abdominal masses myself. First one I ever noticed was just under my left rib cage, about the same size ... I thought it was a hernia developing , went in and got xrays and they said “ congratulations, it’s not a hernia”, completely missing it was cancer. I didn’t get DXED until a year later . Like your husband I have them below my belly button in about the same place, immediately right of it, just above it ..and several more. They never hurt, so far, they have been sites for biopsies a couple times and that didn’t hurt either. One thing tho .. tho they don’t hurt, touching mine causes an “ extremely strange feeling “ ... not pain but you “ know “ humans aren’t supposed to experience feelings like that .. Just say’in. Very creepy.
I doubt those masses will be painful ...in my case I have so many mets, removing any of them is pointless ... plus like I said , they don’t hurt. I just , today, noticed several Mostly small ones in my left hand palm and right finger joints ... probably look like Quasimodo before very long yayahahahaya. You might mention it next time you “ safely “ go in to your doctor, but I suspect it isn’t “ all that “ at this point. Naturally always check with your medical team for final decisions.
Staying home and being safe , right now, is the most important things for guys like us.
Thank you Kaliber for your response. Probably won’t hurt to talk to his doctor on the phone. I doubt if they’ll want him to come in right now. There is always something with this dang disease.
Update: Today at our doctor appointment and with the help of a previous MRI, the doctor determined that the lump we were worried about is the tube to the reservoir on my husbands AUS. Since it isn’t causing any discomfort and the artificial sphincter is working, my husband is not going to do anything about it right now.
