26 days on 1st experience w/ Prednisone 5mg 2X/ day. 1st 1 AM w/Abiraterone 250mg. Excessive Exercising Energy explodes.
That’s Ok.
2nd Prednisone 5mg 4-5PM. Excessive Energy increases till bedtime. Yeh, I trying to exercise my metabolic steroid enhanced ABI/prednisone treatment, then try for 3-4 hrs sleep.
Am I normal or crazy?

I had a similar, but not quite so dramatic response to Prednisone. I experimented for a bit with just 5mg in the morning, or cutting the second pill in half. After talking with my MO I tried taking the second dose earlier in the day, around 2pm, and that seemed to work well for me. After several months, my body adjusted and now I hardly notice any difference after taking my doses.
Note that Prednisone is replacing the cortisol suppressed by Abiraterone (assuming you're on Abiraterone), which normally peaks in the morning, so it makes more sense to take both doses earlier in the day, and let the levels drop in the evening and overnight. It's closer to what your body expects.
Yes Abiraterone only 250mg on day 25. Whoopie. No side effects from ABI maybe slight warm flashes. Nothing different than being on Elliptical machine fir 20 min or treadmilling for 39m. I just didn’t expect the extreme energy with Prednisone. I’ll talk AM does early, like 06:00 or before. I’ll change my PM time to 3 or 4PM worth a try.
I’m also on Buspirone 7.5mg for Anxiety issues. 3x/day it isn’t helping one bit. Maybe I’m Buspirone immune 😡
Yeah, prednisone has absolutely amazing effects - direct and side. If you look up prednisone's side effects you'll likely find a list of 20 or more. I think I've been able to document them all affecting me at one time or another. I too have experienced sleep free energy like yours -- even a couple of sleepless periods of up to 3 days, and no crash afterwards. I'm hopefully done with PCa, full remission for 14 years, but in dealing with other cancers, pneumonias and some other conditions I've had various doses from 1mg to 60mg per day. Oddly for one cancer we had to drop the dosage of 10mg by half because all the side effects, yet there were far fewer side-effects from the 60mg dose two years later. As someone else suggested the time of day, and the length of time you've been on it are also factors. Clearly some of the side effects come and go sort of randomly, at least for me. To me prednisone is one of those miracle drugs, while it's working it's miracles of whatever ails you, you are treated to a miraculous side-show. I've had two doctors basically say "we know some of what it does, but we only know that it works but we don't know why for other conditions". My personal experiences mirror that.
Bottom line, if prednisone does its assigned job and the only extra you get is excess energy or a few sleepless nights be thankful.
Thank you sir. Excess energy and sleepless less less nights are positively a positive effect for me. Never ever thought that type of new med 26 days in would be a wonder drug. Wonder when its going to stop and stop and stop. Energized Doug. I'll take that for now. As Long as it does not affect my Cardio- Functioning organ.
I am on it for 11 months...Energy level still high sleep is always broken thru night but no effects during day...only other side effect may be a little leg swelling.
My first thought on this would be: Take the two Prednisolone in the morning with breakfast. My husband used to take one in the morning and one in the afternoon/early evening and wasn't able to go to sleep at night so we changed it to 10 mg in the morning. No doctor recommended it but it worked. Good luck.
Brilliant idea. Melanie Paul. I shall do that Thursday AM. It can’t hurt that’s when I do my most cardio exercising anyway. As long as I don’t take my afternoon 5mg Prednisone too!!
No I’ve got or gave a well made plan. When my major BP high blood pressure Med’s are done in the morning I turn the bottles over. And move them aside. I do the same now for my Abiraterone acetate 250mg tabs. Turn the bottle upside down DOUG. I just did Lab work blood tests this AM; should be interesting for results now 35 days in on Abiraterone + prednisone + 2nd Lupron 90day injection. PSA Was 1.100ng/mL Dec10th & T-levels <10ng/dL... Anxious to see my liver and kidney chemistry labs too.
Thanks MelaniePaul. (No Prednisone after 12:00 noon guy)
