Leonard Cohen talks about death in this brief video...worth watching “ you’re dying but you don’t have to cooperate so enthusiastically with the process.”

“I’m ready to die, I hope it isn’t uncomfortable”. That’s all any of us can ask for. An accidental philosopher. RIP.

I think not so accidental a philosopher as a true one. First saw him perform in 1966 at Queen’s University Kingston Ontario when I was a student and he was almost an unknown. Last saw him perform in 2014 in Adelaide Australia when I was a lot older and he was famous. Haha. Been a huge fan all along.

Hey Darryl!

Thanks for the post about Cohen!

Interesting about Cohen's death and an email he sent to one he loved in life. It almost seems as if they planned to be reunited where ever we go.

Cohen sort of beat his leukemia. Was he possibly in a rush to 'not fall too far behind someone'? Bored by the afflictions of a terminal illness? As he wrote to the one that he had an enduring love for just before her passing, "I'm just a little behind you".

"The eviction notice"! What a succinct way to express the end of life! But he was a word smith of the first order.

From Wikipedia:

"Romantic relationships and children[edit]

In September 1960, Cohen bought a house on the Greek island of Hydra with $1,500 which he had inherited from his grandmother.[151] Cohen lived there with Marianne Ihlen, with whom he was in a relationship for most of the 1960s.[36] The song "So Long, Marianne" was written to and about her. In 2016, Ihlen died of leukemia three months and 9 days before Cohen.[152][153] His farewell letter to her was read at her funeral"

The email:

"Dearest Marianne,

I’m just a little behind you, close enough to take your hand. This old body has given up, just as yours has too, and the eviction notice is on its way any day now.

I’ve never forgotten your love and your beauty. But you know that. I don’t have to say any more. Safe travels old friend. See you down the road. Love and gratitude.

— Leonard"

How Cohen died:

"Cohen died on November 7, 2016, at the age of 82 at his home in Los Angeles; leukemia was a contributing cause.[173][174][175] According to his manager, Cohen's death was the result of a fall at his home on the night of November 7, and he subsequently died in his sleep."
