My husband has just been informed that due to "big capacity problems" that his scheduled third treatment with lutetium 177 on January 8 has just been cancelled. We've already purchased the expensive plane flight from Los Angeles and paid for a couple of hotels. The management suggests that he contact Magdeburg or Heidelberg but offered no help in reaching them. They are basically throwing him away.
Any suggestions? Does anyone have recent experience with either of these two hospitals? Thanks for anything that might help us.

I do not know what the problem is, but hospitals in Germany are closing departments because they cannot hire the nurses they need. Maybe several nurses in the department got pregnant and they could not replace them.
Here are links to clinics offering Lu177 treatment in Germany:
I have not heard that Magdeburg offers PSMA treatment. Munich and Heidelberg sometimes can treat you on short notice. You probably fly into Frankfurt. You could take a cab to the hospital there to get your treatment.
Could you fly to London and go to Windsor GenesisCare - in UK they treat on outpatient basis so maybe you could fly in have treatment then fly back to pick up
Your flight 3 days later ? Might be worth enquiring ?
Absolutely worth enquiring! Thanks for a marvelous suggestion. We did not know they are doing Lutetium treatment anyplace but Germany and Netherlands without all the usual requirements which he does not meet having never undergone hormone therapy, chemo or any of the older options. Thanks so much to everyone for offering much needed sympathy.
You are correct, they DO Lutetium treatment at Windsor. We are in line terrified now that Heidelberg has rejected him that this is his last change. I believe he contacted finland and was rejected because he already had two treatments in Homburg and they didn't want to start in the middle.
I can't offer any help but I can offer sympathy. That must be so stressful - cancelling treatment and the possibility of loosing travel money! I'm so very sorry this has happened to you and your husband.
My sympathies....What a world. Medical treatment all over the world needs to improve its execution. I can't believe they are treating you this way. Unconscionable!
I was at Bad Berka two weeks ago and it was absolutely packed. They didn't have room for me in the ward so I was sent to a different part of the hospital. Not sure if this is related to the problems at Homburg.
Wow! That sounds really dangerous for people at the hospital. As I understand it, you are radioactive at a dangerous level for three days, that's why they check you into a ward with a lead door! Irrespective of that, I hope your treatment went well. Good luck!
How does that work? How do you keep your family and others safe from the fact you are radioactive? I hear that you have to stay in England one week for the safety of passengers on flights. How do you shop and eat? Can you use the toilet normally? In Homburg, he had to carefully do something so the staff was not infected with radiation for several days.
Did you Marsden England? Also often the airlines will help u get free cancellations? Only in germany not as outpatient, elsewhere in europe and australia it is done as out patient.
Unfortunately, my husband was rejected in Finland because he had already started treatments in Germany. Now they refuse to continue with him citing only "big capacity problems" and something wrong about the PSMA although that didn't matter in Homburg. Really unethical if you ask me, continue his treatments through number four, then dismiss him if need be.
Thank you so much, Axolotl2. We will look into it. The saga goes on; having been rejected due to "big capacity problems" in Homburg where he received two treatments already, his doctors suggested seeking further treatment in Heidelberg. This morning he was rejected by that group because his PSMA isn't expressing the correct whatever. Given our experience, I would hesitate to recommend anyone to treatments in Germany, seems like they really aren't giving us good answers and don't really care. I hope others have a good experience.
