NCI runs a free service for cancer patients that can be reached by phone, Internet chat, or email. I have never used it myself but I met some of the people involved in it back when I worked as a computer programmer at NCI. They aren't doctors. Most of them are people with a B.S. and often an M.S. in health or biological science subjects. I think some of them may have experience in the oncology departments at hospitals. They get training for helping cancer patients and, the experienced ones, are sometimes very good at helping. They may be able to help with finding clinical trials, getting information about drugs, steering you to NCI "fact sheets" and "state of the art" statements, and answering other questions.
You can find them at: cancer.gov/contact
As I say, I've never used them myself, so if any of you have, I'd be interested in knowing what you learned from them and whether you'd recommend others to contact them.
