This Thursday 08/01 my PSMA 68Ga -11 test is history. In @8:15 exited on my way home 10:45.

Results TBD. Really my UROLOGIST/Oncologist online chart says Radiology report will be available Aug 03.... That’s today.

Anticipation is rampant.

What will MR PSMA find and where are my Prostate Membranes coming from??

I should hear from Urologist/Oncologist RN Monday or Tuesday re: Rad report review and My treatment plan. Yes I’m a persistent patient patient. Yeh right. Good news I’ve just got a Uro/Oncologist that does not beat around the bush and does not hesitate to take care of his patients (Me)!

Anticipation is Rampant.

I’m extremely happy that I finally found an Urologist/Oncologist that really really takes PCa treatments to the next highest medical enhanced level. That’s reassuring to say the least. In fact I’ve been to 3 IU Health Urologists in the last 3 years. One of which took care of my urethral Stricture with Urethroplasty. March 2017. Still have to self-Cath 6+ X daily but that’s not related to Ex-Stricture. From Neurogenic Bladder not even connected to Prostate Cancer. I’m looking forward to a phone call Monday or I’ll call Dr Boris ‘s RN ASAP myself.

Molecular biology is not something we learn much about in school, especially if we went to school 40, 50, or more years ago, but here's a bit for you to untangle "... where are my Prostate Membranes coming from?"

A tumor is a collection of cells, in this case prostate cells, that are behaving abnormally. Each cell is a bag of chemicals of many types - DNA, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, etc. The bag itself is called a "membrane". It's also made of chemicals. "PSMA", or "prostate specific membrane antigen", is a complex protein molecule that appears on the surface (the membrane) of prostate cells, especially prostate tumor cells, and a very few other cell types.

The test you have taken uses an artificially manufactured antibody (a molecule that binds to an antigen, in this case the prostate specific membrane antigen) and that gives off x-rays. The scan you had looks for those x-rays and shows them on a picture of your body, revealing where the tumor cells are.

Not all prostate cancer patients produce much PSMA but, for those that do, this scan can aid detection and treatment of tumors. If a lot of PSMA is found, the same or a similar antibody and be used to bind radioactive atoms such as Lu-177 directly to the site of the PSMA and radiate the tumors from inside your body.

Good luck with the results.

Thxs Alan, Next week, early next week should set my scheduling w/my Urologist/Oncologist Doctor. ASAP.

I’m like I’ve already said I believe a persistent patient patient. Well now impatient. As you said and I’ve learned my PSMA 68Ga-11 PET/CT scan is highly effective if a man has active prospering thriving Prostate cells originating from some part of my 67yo body.

Thxs again,

Doug

More news today. I’ll post my PSMA PET/CT scan results. Readers digest version. Technically medically detailed.

Good luck Depot Doug. Nice thing about the PSMA PET scans is they show the good, the bad, and the ugly. Made decision making easier for me. Get my 5th on later this month. Will be interesting to see what taking Keytruda for a little over a year has done. Weird to actually look forward to a scan. With the two stage 4 cancers I have had I am up to around 25 PET and CT scans. Hopefully they don’t create problems down the line.

25 PET/CT scans whoa that’s a bunch of laying down

Progress, I think. I did receive my PSMA PET/CT Imaging report from my online Health access.

Findings:

1. Within the posterior mid to apical aspect of the prostate(mine) there is a PSMA “avid” region measuring 1.2cm(0.47”) x 1.2cm(0.47”) x 1.8cm(0.70”)

2. There are PSMA “avid” Lymph nodes along the right common iliac artery , per aortic, and infrarenal retroperitoneal Lymph node chains with the largest measuring 1.4cm x 0.7cm.

3. Pelvic Lymphadenopathy.

Imaging conclusions: Distant recurrence detected.

PET basis for conclusion: Essential findings.

Two things I’m doing,

1. sent a msg to my urologist/oncologist doctors and head RN tonight electronically

2. calling their office first thing Monday.

I’ve already been informed that my Dr “does not beat around the bush” or hesitate to treat his patients.

Looking forward to a trip from Fort Wayne to Indy ASAP for review, treatment plans, start treatment soon.

Question help please? What does the word “AVID” mean in PSMA avid terminology?

Not what you're looking for?
