Adt / pet scan question

For those of you who have had pet scans (psma specially). Did you stop ADT prior? I’m curious how adt effects the results of a pet scan in a newly diagnosed person.

Without ADT treatment the PSA value can be used to estimate the PSMA expression. However, once you start with ADT the PSMA expression slowly declines.

I would estimate that the PSMA expression is still OK for a PSMA PET/CT four to six months after beginning with ADT.

I havent heard of stopping adt for pets scans... good luck ..

ADT may temporarily increase PSMA-avidity, but reduces it with long-term use. You should never stop life-prolonging therapy just to have a PET scan.

Adt reduces your psa. For an accurate pet scan you want psa above 2.

So they're sort of incompatible.

The real question is why would you interupt treatment for a pet scan.

There can't be too many good reasons why you might choose to do so.

Why would you not choose to wait until the adt stops working and the pet scan might then inform a new treatment decision.
