Has anyone had experience with retro-peritoneal mass? That was the diagnosis of my scan. 4.7 cm x 3.3 cm. Thanks.

I have often wondered if my husband will have/does have this type of spread because his prostate was large and he had extensive EPE. He had symptoms of constipation and pelvic pain (levator ani syndrome and proctalgia fugax) pre and post RP. Dr. Earl Burgess in NC told us he absolutely believes those symptoms were due to prostate cancer even though the urologist and colorectal doctor both said they were unrelated. I've googled this a little bit in the last year and it appears to be uncommon, but not unprecedented. What do your doctors say is the next step for you?

Thanks, SuppWife. I will update when we make a decision. Right now we’re looking at all options.

I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer through a biopsy of a swelled retro- peritoneal lymph node. They biopsied it because of unexplained pain then scan showing enlargement. What is strange is pelvic nodes appear normal per scans. I have researched fairly extensively and it is very rare for this cancer to present that way. My oncologist is treating it as advanced metastatic.

Thanks, KJMiPhx. How is a biopsy done (if I may ask)?

They laid me face down on a table and knocked me out with propofol. Used guided needle inserted in my mid back. Wasn’t a big deal.

That's pretty big. Is it a lymph node? Maybe they can biopsy it

That’s a question I’ll have for my oncologist after the MRI next week

After getting my second opinion yesterday I’m inclined to believe it’s a lymph node or maybe two. We’ll see what the MRI says.
