SpaceOAR For SBRT (Cyberknife)

I’m about to start Cyberknife (G8 3 Cores, with PNI, PSA 10, no Mets). RO recommendation is to use SpaceOAR gel to reduce possible damage to lower intestine. Ins (Anthem Blue) wont pay for SaceOAR. Bend offer 80% discount ($2,700 if I pay out of pocket.

Anyone have experience with SBRT and SpaceOAR/ or not?

i think SpaceOAR is expensive and over-hyped. I describe it as a "solution in search of a problem." The main benefit the mfrs claim for it is the reduction in LATE-TERM rectal problems, but less than 2% of patients getting external beam radiation have any late term rectal problems. I had SBRT, and I didn't have any late term rectal problems. Here's an article about it:

I also had SBRT, with no SpaceOAR. But they had me do a colon cleanse each time. 5 treatments only. No rectal reaction so far- 2.5 yrs later.

Thanks for your responses gents, very helpful. I have a few more days to make my decision.

Allen: The pcnrv post you included in your response was very helpful.

I am curious about what you finally decided, and the results of your procedure. Are you satisfied with the results? Did you end the ADT? What is your PSA?
