What ignorance can do.

Hi all,

It's been a while, but I had to write and tell you what happened to my step dad.

He's 94, a Ma Bell retiree with the best of the best benefits for life. Stubborn as a mule, and he's always correct, no matter what. Whined after he was long passed getting his knees replaced.

He started pissing blood the other night and refused to go to the ER. My Mom called his nurse daughter and she got him to go to the hospital. Three hours later, he's riddled with PCa, in his lungs, bones, liver, and never a Urologist in his life.

For some reason, unknown to me so far is, he has a catheter in.

I just had to share this horror story with the community here, and just say, you go guys. It would be easy to just let the shit kill us, but just being here, proves that there are fighters in the world.

Look at it this way...he made it to 94...something has to kill him...might as well be PCa..if he had gone and had all the standard treatments he probably would already be dead.

I'm sorry, no he didn't. He was given six months. I meant that I just don't like the guy too much.

The cancer in the prostate makes it bulge, close off, and eat into the urethra, which is why he needs the catheter now. Hormone therapy should shrink his tumors, relieve any pain, and enable him to pee better. Depending on where the bone mets are, he may require one or two zaps of radiation to prevent fractures and spinal compression and relieve any pain.

What it didn't do to me was eat into the urethra. No shit. I don't want to get to involved with it now, but mine did cut off my urethra, it was dx'd, it's in my records, but no one ever told me about it. A year and a half or so later, I can pee like a guy pees. And, those bone mets, had them in me, but no more. He won't make it home for his own foolishness.

UPDATE 1:

My Mom doesn't know much about his condition because his daughter took him to these appointments, because "she's the nurse".

So, he was dx'd with BPH, I don't know how long ago, but, he has the catheter, so it's been a while. If he has the catheter, and has BPH, surely he was tested for PCa. But, every one claims ignorance. Like, it just happened. Superiorly aggressive disease?!?

Having been through a blocked bladder caused by my enlarged thang, I know what the process is. Right now he's getting his bladder irrigated, and won't let him go til it runs clear.

Yell at him loudly 'MA BELL, GO TO HELL". That should get his attention. Shit, if I make it to 94 I'll be always right, especially never having to shake hands (DRE's) with an urologist. Cut him some slack. Remember he went through a depression and a world war. He's no snowflake. Remind him that tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo and to keep his hands off of the female nurses.
