Question about Metformin side effects

I finally got my MO to (reluctantly) write the Metformin prescription for me. She gave me 500mg dose. I know from the comments that I need to scale up to approx 2000mg over the next several weeks.

Almost immediately after taking the 500mg dosage (with food), the next day I felt a little sore in my upper chest/rib cage area. It’s not painful, but feels like as if I had a heavy workout session. But it’s present throughout the day.

Any similar experiences? Or solutions?

It takes a while to get used to and some people never get used to it.

Most common complaint is gatrointestinal issues.

I'm at 2,500 mg per day for 6 years now. No problems.

Good Morning snoraste,

Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Myers would start us with 500mg daily and slowly increase the dosage to 2000mg daily (1000 in am and 1000 in pm) in increments of 500mg. Some patients could get to 2000mg, others could not. Diarrhea became the problem for some patients.

Best wishes. Never Give In.

Thanks all for the responses. In the past two days the soreness has gotten a lot better. I do wonder if it could be related to my escalating dosage of Lipitor. I went from 10 tp 20, on my way to 40mg there.
