Does Medicare cover proton beam therapy? Do private insurance companies cover it, or does this vary from insurance company to insurance company?

I recently received 44 proton beam treatments to my prostate plus 25 treatments to lymph nodes. Everything was covered by the combination of Medicare and my AARP/United Healthcare supplemental plan. One of the first actions to be taken by the proton facility you choose will be to verify your coverage. No treatments will be scheduled until a payment plan is in place.

My daily "retail" bill was about $4500, but after Medicare adjusted, the provider was paid about $850.

Best wishes. Never Give In.
