Does anyone else struggle with staying hydrated while on meds? Any suggestions to help?

Sometimes chewing gum can help. It is frustrating when you can't get hydrated

I’m having a hard time getting enough water down. I have alarms that remind me to drink. Lol.

I am Mr dry mouth- to stay hydrated I bought several 32 ounce plastic cups and fill them up. The key is to drink them - I have to actively remind myself as I don’t often stay hydrated either. Plus the products over the counter I use the marked specifically for dry mouth ~ rinses, sprays and tablets. My mouth tends to feel like cotton when I’m having a conversation.

For me, possibly too many meds. I have an addictive brain that tells me …I need meds. I recently reviewed the meds I’m on with my neurologist and psychiatrist to what I could drop / we found three to get rid that I titrated off. The three contributed the fogginess and memory loss I was experiencing.

Cheers!

I have a bottle on my desk and I set alarms. At times I’m so completely focused I miss it or turn it off without action. So frustrating. Lol. Thanks for the thoughts. Hope the meds reduction helps!

I have ADHD, diabetes, sleep apnea and am a DAV. I take meds for these conditions which all cause dehydration, dry mouth, etc. I can feel my skin and hair becoming dryer if i dont drink enough. I have had dreams about being thirsty, stuck in a desert hunting for water. Even finding water but it didnt quench my thirst in my dream...obviously.

I have a hard time remebering to drink enough water during the day. Sometimes toward the end of the day when feeling very hydrated ( cramps in my legs, feet, hands) i try to catch up on my water drinking which causes me to have to wake up several times to pee during the night, which sucks for my insomnia.

Remember hydration isnt just about drinking water. You loose electrolytes and vitamins daily. If you just replace with water you risk becoming deficient in electrolytes and some vitamins. I have notice this causes me to be fatigued and become a little shaky. I have noticed that my meds the next day do not seem as affective which i rhink is due to the lack of vitamins and minerals required to process the meds and run my mind and body. I was drinking mainly gatorade then mixing half a gatorade with water so i would get electrolytes and vitamins and minerals. Gatorade has a lot of sugar, hyfructose corn sugar, which isnt good for you and probably not for my diabetes. I recently switched to an electrolyte liquid i found online that you add to water. It has no sugar flavor or other addatives. It tastes weird so i add lemon to overcome the flavor. I have noticed less cramping and other dehydration issues....when i remember to drink it. I also dont feel that i have to drink as much of it as when i drank plane water.

Now if i can just find a way to remember to drink through out the day.

Get an easily refilled water bottle (or several) and keep them around you and in sight aa much as possible (I move everything else off my desk when I’m working except my computer and my water bottle - then everytime I look up from my work I see it and it reminds me to take a sip).

Might also help to play drinking games (but with water not alcohol lol). Bored? Take a swig! Fav character in a show say a catch phrase? Take a swig! Anything that makes it a bit fun and gets you in the habit of taking a drink haha
