Quillivant and Adderall side effects

My 7 year old has tried Quillivant XR and Adderall...he has bouts of crying, gets cold, irritable and does not want to do what he normally would (play outside, be silly) until meds wear off. Has anyone experienced this and changed to a nonstimulant? Any advice is helpful, thank you!

We have tried multiple medications for my 7 year old daughter and I even tried a 100% homeopathic regimen but that definitely didn’t work. Our pediatrician is very supportive and explained to us it may take multiple tries with different prescriptions to find the one that is right for your child that has the least amount of side-effects and/or most tolerable side-effects.

I keep a journal with start & end dates of all medicine that we have tried and I write down everything I notice differently about my daughter. Her behavior, mood, body temp, appetite, sleep habits.

We have tried both stimulant and non-stimulant medication. When my daughter took Adderall she played with her LEGO set for 6 hours straight and I had to make her stop and had her run and errand with me to Hobby Lobby. While in the store she had a terrible meltdown because she could not decide on what color glitter she wanted. She was crying uncontrollably and did not want me to touch her. A lot of people were staring at us. I knew that day Adderall was not a good fit my kiddo. We also tried Strattera and in the beginning I thought we had found the One, but she developed really bad anxiety so we stopped the Strattera.

You know what’s best for your child always listen to your gut. If you do not like what the medicine is doing to your child I recommend talking with your doctor on other options.

It is likely he has anxiety in addition to ADHD and the medication is aggravating the anxiety. Talk to the prescribing doctor about this issue.

Yes we have to do non stimulants for both my grand kids. Stimulants made them too moody and angry.

We tried Quillivant xr and we Stopped because of strange side effects: my son was afraid of bugs, would not want to play in the playground was more clingy and had mega meltdowns. It was the first medication we tried and gave it a few weeks in hopes that he’ll adjust to It. It didn’t work. We switched to Focalin xr and it works much better, no weird side effects. The only problem is that it wears off early afternoon. We tried a booster in the afternoon at school and would keep him up at night!

Didn’t try adderall.

Yes with Adderall. Switched to Strattera and has been a dream
