Has anyone had experience using nutritional lithium drops for a adhd child? You do not need a prescription for this type of lithium.

The use of the supplement is recommended in the book "Finally Focused" by James Greenblatt, MD for some (not all) adhd kids.

Thanks for posting to the group. Please do not try this medication unless your child is under the care of a psychiatrist. It is a very strong medication that is used for serious issues.

There is so much to giving medications, type, dose, timing and interactions with other types of medications. Trying to figure this out without guidence is not suggested. Also if they are going to take it at school it will not be allowed with an RX.

Our lives really changed once we started working with a child psychiatrist. I can ask ours anytime things don't seem right.

Having a child stable allows for success.

Hope this makes sense. Good luck

Hmmmmm, in my experience lithium is used to treat bipolar. If your child is experiencing emotional dysregulation, depression, anxiety, etc., I recommend you research broad spectrum micronutrients through either Hardy Nutritionals or True Hope. If your child is on medications, you would want to consult with a psychiatrist because if the micronutrients work for your child it could result in a decrease of medication or its elimination.

I agree with the recommendation to use any lithium product under the supervision of a doctor with experience in its use. The supplement dosing may be so little as to be useless. The amount that affects behavior also has the risk of potential side effects. Others have told me that their children have suffered kidney damage (which is listed as a side effect) and have developed increased drinking and urination.

The lithium orotate referenced in “Finally Focused” is not the same as prescription lithium. It is a mineral given in low dosage. I too read the book and following Dr. Greenblatt’s recommendation for treating anxiety and anger, I started giving my 18 yr old son 2.5mg. After a couple of weeks of seeing little change, I upgraded it to 5mg. It is working just like the prescription Risperidone in balancing the brain but without the side effects (tiredness and increased appetite).

That is so awesome that it is working for your son. I started giving it to my almost 10 year old son. I started last Monday with the morning dose and today is the first day I began with the double dose. That is 500 mcg's in the morning and 500 in the evening with food (as per the instructions in the book). I am praying that it will help.

Thanks everyone for your insights. I as definitely talking about the lithium orotate which is the nutritional lithum. It is NOT the prescription lithium that is used for bipolar.
