In need of Advice!!!!

Moved from a great schools district to a bad school district ,My 10 year old Adhd+Anxiety is struggling adapting, kids are so cruel and he is constantly being bully,he has more than 3 notebooks that he draws on,come to find out he draws for kids in order to be liked!!!

No work done at school, never on task.

When school year started I was working with the school counselor (she tried helping) but 3 months later she left school,so i have been waiting for new counselor and they still dont have one.

1 counselor for entire Elementary??!!!!!!

I'm going crazy:(

I'm sorry you are having to go through this. I'd recommend writing the school district (signed on paper not email) asking them to correct the situation or provide an alternate learning environment that is safer and more effective. If you have a diagnosis and either a 504 or an iep include that in the letter. Give them a deadline by which you expect to hear back from them. If you don't hear back or the solution is not acceptable contact the state office of education. If you can afford a lawyer that might be a good option too. Hippie it gets better soon. ❤

Do you have 504 or IEP at the school. Request a new meet asap!! There needs to be support in place at all times.

Write down what you need help and what you want to see change for your child. Make suggestions that could benefit your child at school and see if there is a medium you all can conclude to decide on thr best support. Good luck.

When you request a new meeting on IEP or 504 do it by certified mail. You have proof that you sent the request and they have 3 days to respond and set up a new meeting.

It's really difficult getting school districts to go along with what they're supposed to be doing by law. Put your foot down and insist on help.

Bullying is also against the law. Document what kids are saying and doing to your son. Take that to your meeting.

Yes, bullying is very much an active habits and actions at the schools. Kids are stressed as they have nobody to assist and protect them. As much as my son is a happy go lucky type and loved to be at his brick & mortar school as he never wanted to be absent through all the bullying from students and teachers, too. I towards the end of public school days got an advocate who was a Dept of Education advocate that had to sit in my son's IEP to inform the school to STOP some of the actions taken towards my child like standing on the yellow line on the school playground when it was recess time. Dept of Ed rep told the school they needed to stop with my son and any other children as this was corporal punishment. If the school or teacher wanted to take actions, put him in a corner of the classroom but while all the kids were sitting. And the reason my son was treated like this was for silly things like not sitting still during class time or picking up his pencil when teacher was conducting class. It was my son in trouble more than being educated. That is when i had to make changes to bring him home to homeschool. It was tough at first but who would fight and not give up? Me... as his mother and home tutor.

Good luck and best wishes as you are a blessing to build a group such as this.

Inform the principal of the bullying. Many schools now have a "no bullying" policy. I would recommend finding a counselor outside of school instead of waiting for a new counselor at school. At your 504 meeting, be sure to inform them of his lack of progress and seek additional accommodations if you can.

Big HUG! Yep, yep. My 12 year old has a lot of problems with social cues and making friends. Every morning we talk about how she has this, it's going to be a great day. And then it's just not. I'm very, very lucky because she has great counselors and teachers. She has an IEP that started in January and it has been really, really great!

I've said this so many times before, but taking away her phone and the internet was the first thing that helped and the best thing I did was get us both into counseling. We go to therapy together and separately and she has a psychiatric pediatric NP that she goes to for meds....

Hang in there, I think it's super important to have a good team to help you!

Oh and my daughter is very creative and I think that a lot of kids with ADHD are! I got her some art lessons and she is loving it! Maybe you can get him so really cool art supplies?
