Our son did better on the dextroamphetamine compounds than he did on the methylphenidate meds like Concerta. Dexedrine has fewer side effects than something like Adderall (which is in the same family) but is not quite as effective. Vyvanse is also another option, which also has fewer side effects than Adderall. Our son has used Vyvanse off and on for years, with good results. It's helpful to know that finding the right medication can take some time. The dosage has to be just right and we often had to switch back and forth between meds because the brain develops a "tolerance" for that particular medication and the effectiveness lessens. It's really a balancing act!
Dexedrine and Vyvanse are basically the same medication but with different delivery systems. I agree that some do better on it.
