New to ADHD diagnosis

We just found out that our 8 y.o. son has ADHD but do not know the type or severity yet. Looking for info on:

(1) what additional "testing" was done besides the Vanderbilt Assessment to determine type & severity?

(2) Did your Dr provide a copy of results to you? I found it odd that our pyschologist said he can't give us the summary b/c "it's proprietary" but can share it with other doctors.

(3) How did you tell your child about his/ her diagnosis? Any good analogies?

(4) Helpful tips to deal with defiance?
