Not sure whether it's Adenomyosis

Hello Ladies,

I had a very painful internal ultrasound then immediately i bled and had my period for a week. Do you think that this is a sign of adenomyosis. My consultant mentioned it could be this but before the ultrasound and now i'm kicking myself that i didn't ask him to confirm this after the scan as it was so traumatic.

Has anyone else had this happen? (I have a history of endometriosis and fibroids)

Hi

Please don't beat yourself Up, it can be very unnerving having your lady bits on display and a scanner hurrying itself into your pelvic or even fingers in an internal exam. I had the latter and for days afterwards I was in bed in agony. The registrar asked could I feel pain and it increased as she went from left to right and by the time she was fully right pressing on my womb I was leaping off the bed. Only a very Good MRI scan or new equipment can detect Adenomyosis or hysterectomy and inspection. It is very hard to detect though a US scan can show enlargement or boggy uterus, it can be prior to childbirth too.

Ask for a referral for MRI scan. Are you experiencing regular pain and other symptoms?

It's a nasty condition. I believe a good portion of my life has been stolen away from me with this horrendous nasty.

Good luck.

Hello Kathryn,

Thanks very much for your reply. Think you're right it was very traumatic which always seems to make pain worse. I've had endometriosis for the last 20 years but just wondered whether i'd had adenomyosis too all this time as the pain and dragging down feeling is horrific. Sorry to har you've suffered too, it's so nice to speak to people who finally understand and you're not called hypochondriac (not sure whether that's the right spelling lol!)

Take care x

It sure is a comfort to share the same experiences. I cannot begin to explain the life I lost from 19yrs onwards, I'm 39, the cancelled plans, the let down friends, the explored treatments, the laparoscopies the pills the 3 days in bed per month...

IT'S NOT JUST A BAD PERIOD

IT'S NOT JUST OVULATION PAIN (I recently chastised a doc by e-mail at my doc's surgery who said this to me in 2015, she never referred me for investigations, a male Dr did in 2016. None of the female docs referred me on after menstrual changes and me admitting I drank on family occasions to be present on top of strong pain meds. It took a male to say...hmmm, something is wrong here....

I informed the Drs at my surgery that they need to take women's health issues on board as a big concern and that my diseased womb could have been detected more than a year earlier had investigations been ordered.

I don't care if my name is blackened wuth them now.

I'm paying for my own hysterectomy due to their incompetence and have it set for this Tuesday as opposed to the proposed 26 month wait on the NHS waiting list.

Best wishes with your investigations you need that diagnosis!
