I go out for all types of reasons. I love a fast walk that blows off the cobwebs, I love a gentle stroll that sorts my head out. My special time with MrRfc is hiking in the wilds as we chat and laugh now that he is well enough. Also it helps me keep track of my weight.

I do it to maintain my strength and heart health.

I force myself out of the door to get some fresh air and make myself feel better. Really is as simple as that!

thats my position but its not always easy to force myself out i always feel i have too much to do or am tired. how do you make yourself get out? I always love it when I do get out, so I am not sure what my problem is.

in reply to jamaicann

Hard, isn't it? I try to get out around the same time so that it becomes a habit - like you I always feel better for it!

Me too!

I go out

1) to reduce weight. Esp abdominal fats.

2) remain fit and fresh.

3) to get fresh air. I go in a garden.

4) to meet people and have fun talks.

I voted 'Walk the Dog' initially but really I walk for most of the other reasons too. Walking is the best all-round exercise for my emotional and physical well-being. I'm glad I've been able to use walking as my only form of exercise while I've been trying to lose and maintain weight over the last 9/10 months. (I even 'walk' at home using dvds etc especially when I've slowed down due to the festive season. Not as good as outdoors though obviously). I mind a lovely dog occasionally and he and I have had some exciting times during this recent weather. Brrrr....

Knowing that the hardest part is the first ten steps makes it easier!!

I walk about 5 times a week, usually for an hour but sometimes just 30 minutes. Occasionally a 3 hour hike.

Started regular walking a few years ago for weightloss but now do it for maintaining my weight and to improve my BP and heart health.

Because I enjoy walking (once I get going), enjoy seeing other people and I feel better for the exercise although sometimes I do 'dither' but afterwards am pleased I have made the effort.

I like to walk for heart health as well as the general exercise during daylight hours. I am stuck inside at work for a good part of the day so much needed daylight is needed along with a bit of sunshine when it's out ☺

I enjoy walking for several reason. First, for the exercise to lose weight. second, to clear my head. Third, to go into deep thoughts when need for papers that i need to write. Forth, the fresh air. Fifth, to challenge myself how far in 45 minutes, and sixth, because I enjoy it for my health. 😉

Reason #1 is to clear my head. Rough morning at work? Lunchtime walk. Tough decision I need to mull over? Walk. Emotional/angry/sad? Walk. I walk for other reasons as well, but it's so good for my head.

Good luck for your walking challenge in March. I have two cats too, they don’t like being taken out for walks either 😀.

My cats come out for a walk with me, but they do stop at the end of the street, and usually wait me to come back!

A lunchtime work away from the office helps refresh and revive me, and definitely makes me happier. Good company helps, but even alone it's amazing the difference some fresh air and a bit of momentum can make.

Waling is healthy and it doesn't cost a thing. It helps with physical as well as mental health.

Only just found this poll! For me it is to walk the dog. Whatever the weather and even when I don't feel like going, I have to go!

Hello

My physical training instructor, God 45 years ago told me the heart is just another muscle, so use it or loose it!

Strange how something sticks with you, trying to do any form of fitness at a gym, at home or walking can be hard! For me stress and apathy is my biggest killer, so when you want to be a carrot (vegetable) or lazy be so, the biggest weapon you have in your arsenal is the thing on your shoulders, it can hurt or help.

With having asthma from age 30 it has been my biggest reason to keep fit, to keep my lung capacity strong, yet it so easy to use that word tomorrow, and we All know it never happens!

it is so easy to but other things in the way of looking after ourselves, yes it is hard! And get for some so easy, as I often say you can lead a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead,

People are so quick to offer advice on fitness, it goes in one dad and out the other, the only person you have to be honest with is the one you see in the mirror every day!

peer pressure is what people use, well forget that and do it when you want to.

the upshot of regular fitness is it gives you energy, it fills you with feel good hormones, the trick is little and often.

Put on music you like and March on the spot to the beat, let you body tel! You when it has had enough, it could be 60 seconds, the trick is keep doing it until you feel you can expand the time.

Yes we all have some medical issues, you better than anyone else knows your body and what you can safely do.

Sorry dyslexic fingers, hope this helps.

Graham

I feel much better after a walk, even if I've not met people. I'm lucky to live in a beautiful part of the country.

I try to go out after work (currently working from home) so find i need 40 mins or so to let the office work go and come back ready to do dinner and all home life stuff. I don't tend to power walk or anything, it is much more contemplative and relaxing but i really enjoy it

I have a 14 month old staffiedor ( cross between a Staffie and a Labrador) so needs his walk . I also have pulmonary fibrosis so exercise is a good thing when I am able . I love to go walking with my friends in the Forest of Dean where I live 👱🏻‍♀️

I enjoy walking but I am also aware that it helps to maintain skeletal health. My mother had AP so I’m very mindful that I am likely to get it too so need to be aware and do the best I can to stave off onset for as long as possible.
