Is there an alternative to
statins
. I also have an under active thyroid and take thyroxine, I have read that an active thyroid makes cholesterol higher, but is that the case if it’s controlled by medication.

My GP has just completed my annual review and has referred me to the GP specialist Pharmacist to discuss
statins
. My cholesterol has always been well controlled with a reading of around 5 (I was told my good cholesterol was excellent).

Feeling a bit frightened
I was on an introductory dose of
statins
, and now my GP is doubling the dose. I know this sounds silly, but I'm feeling very fragile today. Heart disease does run in my family and they are saying I possibly have "familial hypercholesterolemia" (fancy word for genetics).

Update on cholesterol levels
He was between doubling my
statins
or adding Ezetimibe as he did not want me to lose any more weight but we decided on Ezetimibe to take alongside it as I have tolerated my current level of
statins
well and a doubling might be a bit strong for me given my size.

I am on 20mg of atorvastatin and I understand that's not good for RLS. I'm sure I've read in the past that there is a statin that is ok for us sufferers but can't remember the name. Could anyone help with that please.

Just a follow up to my post last week
Cholesterol is another issue and of course wants me to go on
statins
which at this point I refused. If it wasn’t for the help on here I would of been lost and so confused thank you so much. I’ve started on a Vit B complex as well as my other Betteryou sprays so I’m hoping they help.

waiting for a diagnosis
I have been on
statins
for years as most of my relatives have died young of heart attack and stroke. My sister had to have a heart bypass in her 50’s. Ecg was abnormal so they referred me to cardiology clinic.

My cholesterol is 6.6, lower than it’s ever been and I do not want to take
statins
. My gp doesn’t want to retest TSH and I don’t think I have been tested for T3 or T4. Do I need to stop the carbimazole before doing the test and if yes, how long before?

Atorvastatin and Ibrutinib
I have put a question into my haematology team as to the acceptability of Atorvastatin, I know certain
statins
should not be taken with Ibrutinib.

Is this a long wait to see a cardiologist, or is it normal?
I had an MI while abroad in December, I had to have CPR, I had a stent put in and spent 4 days in a foreign hospital ( it was very nice and my treatment was excellent) and I am now on what appears from this forum to be a pretty standard cocktail of thinners,
statins
, beta blockers, etc .

Hi all I've just joined the group and look forward to any advice and support that is offered. I have angina.
I have 2 stents in the right coronary artery and despite being on
statins
since 2011 am experiencing rising cholesterol. I have been referred to the lipid clinic. Various doses and types of
statins
have caused awful side effects so It has been suggested by the gp that we discuss the injections.

Atorvastatin
Initially I took it at night as I’ve read that our bodies make cholesterol at night so taking
statins
at night makes them more effective. I’m pretty sure it gave me disturbing dreams so I’ve changed it to break time! My cholesterol has dropped to 4 now which is great.
