Post Bypass Cholesterol check
I have been on 20mg of
statins
since about a month before my CABG in March. The cardiac rehab nurse suggested that I should be on a higher dose, such as 80mg. She wanted to be sure and I had a fasting blood test a week ago. My cholestorol is now down from 6.7 to 3.4 and at an acceptable level.

Statins
See comments on both this forum and the Thyroid one about the advisability or not of taking
statins
. I have a chadvasc score of 3, old lady! and high blood pressure. I take Dabigatran along with various bp meds and because of the
statins
no-one bothers to re-test my cholesterol level.

Berberine for leaky gut and Parkinson's ?
◦Improve blood lipid levels better than
statins
. ◦Lower blood pressure in many subjects as well as any class of anti-hypertensive medication. ◦Improve liver function and promote anti-obesity effects.

Can you help with advice on side effects of drugs for high blood pressure?
Have been on
statins
for 5 years or more which, unfortunately, did not shield me against a TIA last month. Statin dose has been increased (from 10 to 40mg), and Lercanidipine dose doubled (from 10 to 20 mg), and now also on Clopidogrel 75mg.

Massive Increase In Statin Dose Post Bypass
Whilst I understand why
statins
are prescribed I cannot find any real explanation for the massive increase. Obviously I will ask at my follow up appointment butt wondered if anybody knew why.

My cardiologist changed me from lovastatin to Lipitor after heart attack. Lipitor has a lot more side effects. I asked to be switched back and she said Lipitor has more cardiac benifits??Does anyone know what the heck they may be????

Statins and AF
I am so worried about taking another medicine especially
statins
. Today I read they are processed by the liver and I know the same happens with Apixaban, is this not a lot of work for the liver to do.

Confused
I have now read a paper by a Dr Wolfe that taking Rosuvastatin increases the risk of diabetes more than the other
statins
. I am now confused and unhappy to start this medication. Had anyone here on the forum been prescribed Rosuvastatin and if so how do you get on with it and how is it tolerated?

Free triiodothyronine level correlates with statin responsiveness in acute myocardial infarction
Just possibly, low T3 is the underlying issue - rather than why
statins
have poor responsiveness in at least some patients.

New to this
However my cholesterol is high and my diabetic nurse wants to put me on
statins
and I'm not too keen as I would rather do this naturally. Any advice would be greatly appreciated ... I'm loving all the great recipes here!

High cholesterol levels
At the time my cholesterol was check found to be slightly higher but my cardiologist was happy that I did not need
statins
or to change my diet as he know that my diet was pretty good.
