Lymphedema Awareness

I had a sentinel lymph node biopsy done in my armpit and groin in May. Since then, i had developed lymphedema in both areas. What they don’t tell you about lymphedema is some of the more serious complications that can accompany it, and some necessary precautions to take to prevent these side effects. I contracted cellulitis. Which is an infection in the deep tissue of your skin, it causes fevers, swelling, and the skin in the affected area becomes red and hot to the touch. I was treated with an iv dose of antibiotics and will continue orally taking antibiotics for the next 10 days.

Cellulitis is very fast moving, and is super important to get taken care of right away, especially if you have had any lymph nodes previously removed and it’s in that area!

Hopefully this helps to spread some awareness to others who may be affected by long term lymph issues.
