My choice was always sleeve gastrectomy even though my endocrinologist told me firmly to get a gastric bypass. When I studied the 3 options, the sleeve was the only serious choice that left me with a small intestine. I didn't want a lap band because that didn't seem like a serious, permanent choice. The weight loss was less and it was flexible and I had no intention of going back into surgery. More surgery= more surgical risks. Of the 2 permanent options, only the sleeve gave me the small intestine, which is where all nutrients and medications are absorbed. Why would anybody get rid of THAT? What good is eating right if you have no small intestine to absorb the food and nutrients? The gastric bypass was a loser to me. Plus I was on a lot of meds, only some of which I could hope to get rid of after months of being post surgery. Even my surgeon wasn't doing many gastric bypasses due to their problems. Yup, the sleeve is the only good choice in my book.
