how effective is excercise cycling for 30 minutes a day?

Very. That is the short answer. Cycling is good exercise for so many reasons. you use the biggest muscles you have: your thigh muscles. You do not damage you knees as you do when you run. But the important thing is not to dawdle. you have to get you heart rate up. Asking how good 30 minutes of cycling is as exercise is an impossible question without knowing how hard you were trying. So, 30 mins is ok. Even 20 mins is ok if you keep up your hear rate.
I agree with arundhatip. Cycling is an excellent way to lose weight. However, you have to get your heart rate up for 20 minutes or more, no good dawdling..
