Healthier anyway- if not longer, and be mobile for longer

It's got to be about health! Going on holiday, looking good or a social event are all outside me so why bother? Such changes don't last, you lose a few pounds get fed up and stop. Only remaining as fit and healthy in the long term gives me the will power to change the way I think and act in relation to food

Don't know about the living longer bit but certainly about healthier for sure. Life is certainly happier if you can move around. Looking good or better is important too as it help my confidence. I don't feel like a freak, I can blend in. I can wear colours and styles I like instead of dark tent like frocks to loose myself in. I can go swimming. I have knowledge of healthy eating and as they say : knowledge is power !

wow! I'm as boring as I always thought I was. I ticked 3 boxes~ and they all happen to be the top 3 reasons for watching my weight. sad or what?

I just want to be in less pain so I can do more exercise and move more to lose more weight. It's the first stone that's the hardest when you're immobile.

I feel the same, just getting my head in gear to diet. I'm more immobile now so weight piling on. I have fibromyalgia , rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis . So becoming harder by the day to keep fit. So am going to try again now to shed some weight but I need all the encouragement I can get.......

Healthy living ,prevention of man made disease.Enjoy my life not contribute in unhealthy habits

In the past I've used all the vanity reasons for losing weight, but now, at last, the penny's dropped and I'm doing it for my health and wellbeing.

I was told by the nurse at my doctors that my waist was 36" and I needed to reduce it unless I wanted to look forward to heart disease, stroke or diabetis. I soon got my act together and lost 2 stone and 6" off my waist. I felt much fitter for it. The nurse has since retired but I was glad to have met her.

Well done to you! I have lost over the years and now am only half stone over original goal weight. What were your first steps towards the 2stone loss? The nurse for me later only said eat less and only healthy food. I just lost a couple of pounds with that. I myself am glad I incorporated exercise when I was a lot younger. That made a difference. I am motivated at the moment but think now it must only be chair exercise but will see if that makes a difference for an elderly person. Of course with dieting or watching fat and sugar. Thank you for encouraging me once again

Mine is possibly for more positive reasons. Even though I have always been overweight apart from mobility issues creeping in I had no weight related health problems (extremely lucky I know). Some tests for other things revealed no problems - no diabetes or pre-diabetes and no liver problems etc.

I saw this as a positive thing - so far I'd done myself no harm, so it was time to keep it that way and lose weight.

At the same time I heard that walking for 20 mins a days greatly improves your health so this is what motivated me to walk.

So these two positive things lead me to lose weight :)

I have osteoarthritis and suffer with the joint and stiffness problems, and I am also due to have another knee replacement , so I thought I should lose some weight. So I stopped boozing and stuffing myself with crisps and similar rubbish. Now after six weeks I have lost about ten pounds in weight and saved about £220, But I will have a good old time at Xmas.

If you are, as I am, overweight, then health has to be a priority, after all, who wants to be a pretty corpse?

I want to have IVF as I have been referred for IVF and just found out that you only receive this if you are within your bmi results. I am desperate to do this and no other diets have ever worked. I have tried loads

Started again at 33 years of age in new marriage, now have two great children from this, a 16 year old daughter and a 14 son who have been physically active all of their lives, swimming, football,, they have both played football since they were around 5 years of age,and have now progressed where my daughter has played for our county, and they now both play for our local town football club' Ladies and under 15's respectively, so why do I want to lose weight?, its obvious I want to share and be a part of their physical activities and join in with their swimming and football training and not just be a fat Dad standing on the sideline.
