I have had some problems with my short term memory not being so good but apart from the whole stress of having to take so many tablets for ever and that they do not make me feel too good I have had no other trouble with my mental health. What problems have you been having?

I too have had problems with my short term memory , I get very down sometimes but i would say it was more to do with things going on in my life rather than the anti-rejection tablets.Hope your ok x

Hi

My depression started a couple of months ago, six months after receipt of my transplant.

I believe its down, in part, to the huge expectations I had built up over the years of waiting. Looking forward to holidays, feeling well, no headaches, no needles, no more bus trips to hospital at 6am on dark winter mornings, better social life, energy, drinking coffee, eating bananas, I expected life to be rosy.

It is rosier, it is amazing and wonderful but it was never going to be the perfect picture I had built in my mind. My heads way of dealing with the difference was to send me into depression.

I suspect the drugs and other aspects of my life, are a factor.

BUT taking all into account - I have a transplant yippee, so I am working through the depression, it's something I have control of and my life is on track.

I will always take the tablets, look after my precious new kidney and accept any drug side effects.

My previous transplant in 1988 left me with some much worse side effects, the drugs these days are much better, for that I am very grateful.
