It's very difficult to gauge whether there will be any effect.

The medication is prescribed for anxiety, low mood and falls into the classification of an anti-depressant. There isn't a significant percentage of reports of tinnitus recorded by end users via the Yellow Card Scheme - I believe the current figure is around 71. The medication has been prescribed since 1982. That's not a massive number.

Figures provided by the NHS Business Services Authority for 2023/24 suggest that around 8.3 million people in the UK were taking anti-depressant medication (the statistics that I can find are not granular enough to say how many of those folks were taking Prozac/Fluxoxetine).

On the other side of things, SSRIs - of which Fluoxetine is one - are listed on the British National Formulary website as having tinnitus as a common side effect.

I think it's important to consider what the medication is being prescribed for and whether the benefits outweigh the deficits - will it improve any anxiety symptoms and might that improvement lessen how much people are bothered by tinnitus?
