Hi all. I've been suffering with tinnitus, hearing loss and vertigo for almost a year now, and awaiting an ENT appointment. Although I cope reasonably well I have been experiencing low mood recently, which I think is related to these conditions and the feelings of anxiety and isolation and frustration it provokes. My question is, has anyone found it helpful to take a low dose anti depressant whilst experiencing the above symptoms. Thanks for reading!!🙂
Low mood: Hi all. I've been suffering with... - Tinnitus UK
Low mood
ask your doctor to refer you to a audologist and ask them for sound masking in ear devices it might give you some relief... as for the anti depressents, thats completely upto you
some find they lower their T..some types can spike it
its best to do your own research on the "safer" types of antis
i have had vertigo once and it was horrible so i feel for you on that
Any hearing loss suggests that an audiology appointment should be prioritised, as getting support with hearing loss may have a surprising effect on how intrusive tinnitus is.
I will now get off my soapbox 😀
you haven’t had many replies to this. I don’t take anti-depressants myself but many on this forum have done so. You could put”anti-depressants in to box top right of this page to search what people have done.
Hello, my symptoms are similar to yours, I've been making diet and life style changes as outlined on the meniers page and have found the vertigo has lessened, my hearing is still fluctuating the t is almost always there. menieres.org.uk/information...
Hello - Sorry to hear you are having such a long wait to see someone at ENT. Please be assured that we have all either been through what you are experiencing when tinnitus first hits you, or are still suffering the anxiety, depression it causes. Mine came on suddenly 2 1/2 years ago following a bout of Labyrinthitis which left me profoundly deaf in my right ear. I am left with Musical ear syndrome along with other tinnitus noises. I thought I was going mad and to make matters worse my GP had never heard of this and due to the pandemic just sent me a link to the British Tinnitus org. I was in such a state that when I did get to speak with him he realised the dreadful impact this had on me and prescribed Diazepam which I take when I feel the need. It calms me down and oddly the following day my tinnitus appears much quieter. I don’t take it on a regular basis as I don’t want to become dependent on it. I would certainly ask for something to help you. Good luck x
Please let us know how you get on. We know there is no cure for tinnitus but sometimes we need some assistance along the way x
Hi. I also have T and vertigo and nausea.
It was a constant worry and drain on me. I always was against antidepressants but I’m on a low dose now and it really helps, especially on bad days. I’m not saying I’m happy on bad days but I think it takes the edge off. Each bad day isn’t as bad as I know I experienced it before and look for the better times.
I see a chiropractor and working on my C1 and C2 helps my vertigo and nausea. Look it up on Google. It doesn’t help my T though. It’s getting louder but I’m getting used to it.
Hope you get through this tough period.
You have three of the four symptoms of Ménière's disease. Do you also have a feeling of fullness in your ears? And is the hearing loss one sided which often is how it starts, although it can start with both. If you see your GP you might mention this as a possibility. It took years for me to be diagnosed but there are definitely anti vertigo drugs that can help (I used to have vertigo that left me throwing up and unable to walk). I was lucky; after two years my vertigo went and has not returned although the other symptoms got worse, but for me that was an OK trade off. Also research Ménière's so you can see if you think you fit that profile. As for anti-depressants, which was your original question, I don't know. I have never taken them but some people seem to think they help.
