Hoping someone can help

Hello everyone, I battle depression, anxiety and PTSD, and a touch of ADHD. For as long as I can remember there has been this “noise” in my head. Just like a white noise type thing. Like my mind is never quiet.

Years ago when I was first put on anti depressants I had that quiet mind. Unfortunately,it stopped me from expression emotion so they switched meds. The only time my mind is quiet is with loud music(rock especially) or at the ocean.

I have been trying to explain what it feels/ sounds like, but it is difficult. I posted in my anxiety group and someone suggested it may be tinnitus. I always thought tinnitus was a ringing in the ears. This “noice” isn’t a ringing. Just curious if anyone experienced this.

tinnitus is experienced in many different ways. There was a post on this forum a few weeks ago asking people to post what their T sounds like, and there were several replies saying they have different sounds.

You might well have tinnitus.

There is an American charity that helps with this condition but it isn’t nearly so comprehensive as the UK charity. Can I suggest that you visit the British Tinnitus Association website and have a read of it?

Tinnitus comes in many forms from the ringing we usually think of, to music, and many other sounds. I hear several sounds at once, and once of them is just a kind of surround noise, probably more hum than anything, but not specifically in either ear. I assume it's tinnitus, like my ringing and buzz, but just different. So, yes, I suspect you have tinnitus.
