I’m new here, would like some help..

I’ve had tinnitus for 8 years. Believe it was caused by a medication I’ve been on for about 40 years. Has this happened to anyone else.?

Trying hard to get rid of it, if possible. Looking into therapies from Jan Strydom. Anyone heard of him or tried his therapy. Thanks.

Hello Luv. I don’t have the experience with medication you have, but what I would say is this: if your are wondering what has caused/causes your tinnitus, it simply give the T the strength to carry on. The more attention you give it, the more prominence it has in your life.I don’t know if you’re familiar with the British Tinnitus Association? Their website gives lots of guidance on the subject. In the meantime, I’m sure you know already that there’s no ‘cure’, just ways to mitigate and habituate, so I’d be wary of “therapies” unless they are condoned by the medical profession or appropriate charities.

Hi. I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to say for sure what has caused your Tinnitus, this is confirmed by my audiologist and ENT doctor.

Take care

Hi there LuvmyiPad.

I don't think that the Jan Strydom techniques are likely to do any harm at all - I think at best they might act as a distraction, which seems like the most realistic effect that they can have.

As Rosie says, putting tinnitus into the position of something which you have to rid yourself of may have the opposite effect and turn it into a source of distress or irritation, so we try to advise against that.

Nobody wants to have tinnitus, but if we view it as the enemy, our body and mind can very easily treat it as such and heighten our awareness of it.
