I was reading a reply on another post where someone mentioned a loss of taste and smell. I have been suffering altered taste for at least 5 years - then 4 years ago 1 sided deafness and tinnitus and now 2 sided deafness. I can still smell things ok - mostly . I am always unsure if I have cooked food in a tasty way as I just can't tell - it's a bit like my hearing- I try to get it right with what I can compute with my brain. I seem to be quite good at getting my spicing levels right from experience- but I sometimes think food tastes off - when it is actually perfectly fine. If I had a blindfold taste test I would struggle. I was just wondering if anyone has ever found out why this happens?

Have you lost your sense of taste as well as tinnitus and hearing?
Hi!My sense of taste and especially smell are very good as for hearing and sight☹️. I can only suggest getting it checked out by a GP. Good luck
Thanks for replying Linley. I have had loads checked out and have been told with a shrug it's one of those things! I am however getting hearing checked again as it's definitely got worse in the last 12 months. Hearing aid doesn't turn up and I could do with an aid with volume control
Hello,It might have been me saying that as whatever virus I had took my sense of smell and taste. At the time of the virus all those years ago I immediately had a burnt smell and taste. That was the last thing I would really smell or taste.
When the virus left and I was getting better about a month later I was cooking in our kitchen and the gas flame went out. Standing right over the cooler I did not smell a thing. Good job there was someone else in the house or who knows.
I don’t really even know anyone personally with T let alone this.
I find my brain fills in the gaps until I eat something I’ve never had before then it’s blank.
Keep well and very best to you Graham
