Good day to everyone ,

I’m suffering from tinnitus, like all of you, for the past 4 years now. Along with this condition it came the ear loss too 🥳🥳. I’ve been told that not everyone with T has ear loss, is that true? How many of you has ear problems? Thank you! Have a great day

Hi Laura

Not everyone with tinnitus has a significant hearing loss. Some people have tinnitus and essentially normal hearing. That's partly why it can be such a difficult issue to diagnose and treat.

The guide on our website, "All About Tinnitus", explains why the emphasis in tinnitus diagnosis often focusses on our hearing - bit.ly/3lhb50l.

The types of changes in our hearing are usually subtle and can happen over time without being that obvious to us. If we find those changes stressful or worrying, that can make our tinnitus more noticeable to us and become more difficult to shift our attention away from.

Hello Laura from Italy! I have had tinnitus for many years and developed hearing loss about eight years ago. I find that wearing hearing aids is good for tinnitus as it makes the real world a bit louder, so the T has to go into the background. Most of the time!

Hi Happyrosie, thank you for your positive comment on hearing aids helping tinnitus, I am waiting for my aids so hopefully they will help my tinnitus.

Hi Laura. I'm sorry you have hearing loss with T . It's difficult. I struggle with the T in my deaf ear . A hearing aid helps a little. I hope you find some relief.

Ciao Happyrosie! Actually this is something I’ve never considered so far, hearing aids can provide relief with Mister T. I listen to the nature sounds and classic music (NO Violin) sometimes it helps.Thank you

Hi Laura, in answer to your question, I have tinnitus and have for 30 years but no hearing loss, but I have not had a hearing test. Hope this answer is useful.

Hi, when I had my inner ear event I got Tinnitus, hearing loss and veritgo but as Pat says not everyone gets hearing loss when they get T. Another good place to learn more about T is the BTA elearning platform (its free) Take on Tinnitus tinnitus.org.uk/takeontinnitus.

I am getting hearing aids in a month or so for my hearing loss. As HappyRosie says hearing aids can help with T as brings sound forward plus you can now get hearing aids with sound generators in them so they also play a background sound to help (some people) with relief from T. More info can be found at the BTA website tinnitus.org.uk/sound-therapy (wearable sound generators).

Take care and stay safe

Thank you very much! I have intolerance with some sounds, mostly urban sounds and I’m afraid that with earing aid it could get worse.

Sorry to hear that, just as an FYI you can get wearable sound generators which do not have the hearing amplification.
