had my tinnitus for 18 years and used to be able to deal with it but lately as I’ve gotten older I’m not coping well I just can’t believe it’s gotten this loud it’s so loud it was always in my right ear but now it just feels it’s in my head I hear like two sounds a constant high pitch and an almost pulsating like a heart beat high pitch and was wondering if pulsating tinnitus means anything serious ?? Sometimes the pitch changes suddenly and I feel like my head spins I had an mri when my tinnitus started and was clear and they couldn’t say why I suddenly got tinnitus I guess I’m one of the lucky ones NOT

SarahLouise, Tinnitus can and does change and each one of us experiences it differently from each other and differently from time to time. That's the nature of the beast! I think I said in an earlier post to you about reading the British Tinnitus Association website about how you can help yourself. Also, there's a very good book "Tinnitus: from Tyrant to Friend" and this charts the experience of a doctor who got T and how he dealt with it. In the book he explains why and how, and what you can do.

I have had ‘normal’ tinnitus for over twenty years but about four months ago started with pulsating in other ear. I had carotid artery ultrasound and while there is a little narrowing, they say nothing of concern. I am on list to see ENT but as non urgent it could be a long wait. Not too noticeable during day but sometimes (not always) when I’m quiet or have rushed upstairs I can hear it. I am trying to steer clear of Google and posts which I know will unsettle me. It certainly raises if I am anxious.

Hi Sarah. Believe me you are not alone. I have had this horrid tinnitus for as long as I can remember, I'm 58 now and like you're good self mine is getting worse. Some times my ear just goes deaf and then makes weird sounds , it can be frightening some times especially at night. Then I think about all the poor people who really have got life changing problems like terminal cancer or some other life threatening illness and I think I will survive and beat this tinnitus one day soon. Please don't give up, lets be heard and make the medical word more aware..

"Pulsatile tinnitus, is not for sissies, for sure". This is a comment that I just read on the fibromuscular dysplasia associations facebook site (FMDA). In March 2022 my somatic tinnitus progressed to the low whoosh of pulsatile tinnitus in the left ear. After the typical workup- multiple specialists, imaging, and having to navigate a mostly clueless medical system that most of you on whatever side of the Atlantic -- also experience, the cause appears to be a moderate left ear sensorineural hearing loss (lucky you in the BHS where hearing aids are free) is picking up the blood turbulence of carotid fibromuscular dysplasia, also found on the left side of the neck. No cure but to take measures- to prevent the wonky arteries from dissecting, highly unlikely at my age, and to take those steps to manage the sound and its impact. In other words, just like regular tinnitus but at least knowing the cause.
