Does betahistine dihydrochloride help?

Hello to all,

I have hypothyroidism, and I usually go to the Thyroid community. But my tinnitus is getting worse. I was advised 16mg betahistine dihydrochloride twice a day. I just took first dose and T has gotten much louder! All advice gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

Well Koola the short answer is NO.If you are in the UK you know about National Institute of Clinical Excellence, which guids GPs to the best help they can give their patients.

Last March new advice was given to GP's to NOT prescribe this drug, and the advice also suggested the pathway that GPs might wish to follow.

This advice came out at the same time as Covid so GP's may have missed it.

Thanks, Happyrosie. Couldn't be clearer. I'm not in the UK so no way to know.

Hi Koola

I’m hypo as well but I honestly couldn’t say anything on betahistine

Even though I have all the symptoms of menieres I was told I didn’t have it

Those lovely bunch in Thyroid can advice you on this probably more as I’m sure I have seen posts regarding mannitol and tinnitus and other advice to help ease it as there’s a definite connection

Hope that can help
