Hi all

Was diagnosed having tinnitus last week by a junior GP locum.

He looked inside my ears after I told him I had try to remove wax from them and 2 days later a mysterious sound appeared

All he could say its Tinnitus try background music to mask it.

At first it kind of helped but then a couple of cronic stress situations and my body would start shaking and the experience was quite frightening and debilitating.

My question is should I ask GP to get me checked by specialist to eliminate anything else??

I have now booked a hearing test myself with Boots for the 9the Jan

When an attack of this Tinnitus increases I find it quite debilitating and makes me shakes with nerves. Its most upsetting as I can't seem to anticipate it happening or plan any coping method strategy.Like most people I think the covid situation has given us cronic stress in dealing with a lot of unknowns?

I've started looking at a healing process called Neuroplasticty which is an online self study approach, I am wanting to reduce / remove the unwanted sounds and panic attacks and hope to find a way forward on getting through all of this.

Hope to hear back some positive replies.

Cheers

HiNewly diagnosed myself,

My GP referred me to a consultant who i had a zoom call with quite quickly as I have some other health issues trundling along which prioritized me ( I think)

Consultants approach is an MRI scan of head (reviewing one I recently had for another issue) and a hearing test.

I've already learnt that trying to relax seems to help and I'm masking with music / radio, not heard of Neuroplasticty so will have a look.

Best wishes and hope you get some good news.

I’d agree with Rob. Have you read the British tinnitus association website? It’s very helpful.

Hey - great name! - I have every album - seen em live - and there is my problem - decades of seeing bands and playing in bands - no protection and now I am suffering for it.

It's good that you are looking at ways to alleviate the condition.

I think it has been said so many times - but - stress is T's best friend - but, of course, it's a vicious circle! With time you CAN start to adapt - to accept it - as it were. This wretched situation we are currently in is definately fuel for the fire!

Remember - you are definately not alone (I was rather hoping 42 had a song of that title - but it's only a lyric in 'Hot Water') which may give a degree of comfort.

All the best to you.

Yep they r rather unique Saw them playing in Oct 18 at Cardiff and Mark King was celebrating his 60th and it was epic.

Well yes this dam thing, can only imagine it caused by me after putting hair clip in my ear to clean out wax ! and so sorry I did.

Your also right about the stress, because every time it starts to increase its triggered by stress beforehand, and yes under current circumstances certainly plenty of stress to fuel it.

Its early days for me on the tinnitus but have ear test appointment on Sat, it's strange on times how I've started the day with no tinnitus? but usually by about midday it's there?

Personally I'm going to keep doing the self study neuroplacticity (the body and brains capacity to change itself) I 'm finding the intial body scans exercise r helping,

Really good to talk to you and appreciate your positive reply

I wish you and all as stress free new year.
