Driving me mad

Hi I had tinnitus when I was in my 20s I think it was about that time in my life.

It came back last year and it’s so bad it’s driving me crazy. I spoke to my gp about it a few months ago and was told it was my meds I am on. I’m on a lot of meds dew to pain all different things. Is there anything that can help me 🌻

Hello Iwilldoit and I’m sorry your T is so bad. Your GP says it’s because of the meds you’re on? So is it possible to change the medication? Have a chat with your pharmacist and see what s/he thinks, they are the medication experts.

Otherwise, have you looked through the British Tinnitus Association website for tips?

Personally, I just try and ignore it. I got hearing aids, and that helps a bit because you can hear the environment around you louder than the T. I practice concentrating on my breathing when it gets louder, so you’ve got something else to concentrate on.

If you can go out into nature - your garden, a park, the woods - listen to what is around you like the wind in the trees, and concentrate on the good things.

Hi thank you for your advice I to had hearing aids and stopped using them for same reasons. I will ask if I can change my meds. The meds help with my pain. I will look on the t web site 🌻

Just a thought - I’ve tried a lot of pain medications to find out what suits me best and none of them made any difference to the tinnitus.

Most Tinnitus sufferers are not too bothered by it during the day as their is sufficient noise to counteract it. At night one has to find other ways to cheat the sound. One could install a mini fountain or put a transistor under the pillow with 24 hour Classic FM (Ireland) or equivalent where ever you are. I suggest learning The Brook, by Lord Tennyson and recite it

while you try to find sleep. This poem evokes a lot of activity as you will see if you google the poem on You Tube where it was actually filmed by a mountain river in County Kerry (IRL).

Dear Finn

Many thanks for getting in touch with us.

We don't normally feature poems in Quiet or on our website, but we encourage people to share them on our forum. This can be found at healthunlocked.com/bta, where you will find a supportive community who I'm sure will find something of themselves in the poem.

Best wishes

Someone on this forum told me I was gong to be struck off for publishing my tinnitus poems, yet I had been given permission by Nic Wray.

I’ve joined British Tinnitus Association and had a live chat with them. They did say to me it could be possible my hearing has got worse and that’s why I’ve got the tinnitus so bad. I already wear hearing aids both ears but I’ve not been wearing them for a while I didn’t like the noise. Cause my hearing wasn’t great I got use to not hearing things like birds singing and the trees rustling. Plus it really makes my ears itch. But I’ve got a hearing test in two weeks time so hopefully everything will get sorted.🌻
