Hi. I’m new here. My daughter has had a blocked ears for the last 2 months and slight buzzing. Doctors said her ears had lots of wax and weren’t allowed to syringe due to COVID so put her on anti biotics. She finally had her ears micro suctioned on Monday and they cleared the wax. Since then the buzzing has got louder, even though she can hear better it’s not perfect. She is so upset at the buzzing and is currently up most nights crying. Any advice welcome please

Hi !! I so sympathise !!! I have dreadful tinnitus for last few weeks and night is definitely worse !! My best tips is to play sounds all night like Water sounds or birds singing as this distracts you a bit !!! YouTube is great for these sounds !! Melatonin which is very safe can help with sleep but is only on prescription here in Ireland !! Thinking of you good luck !!
Thanks for reply. She has an appointment with the ENT tomorrow so hopefully they’ll be able to help ,fingers crossed
The same thing happened to me - a build up of wax and ear blockage which worsened an already slight tinnitus problem I’ve had for years. My tinnitus also did not go away after the earwax removal which was done by microsuction. so I do sympathise as the hope is always a return to normal.
I saw an ENT Specialist about mine too and he theorised my blockage just unmasked the tinnitus and it’s probably not actually any louder than it’s been in the past but I’ll need to get used to it again to train myself to ignore it so it gets quieter (which is possible as ive done before)
Has your daughter complained about tinnitus before or is this the first time?
I can imagine it is quiet scary for her as even as an adult it can cause much anxiety and fear. The reassurance is she’ll learn to cope or it may just go away if it was the earwax as the primary cause as it doesn’t always stop the buzzing right away
For the sleeping a good relaxation app I use and have been recommended is ‘Resound tinnitus relief’ which plays soothing sounds and music which you can mix together different sounds to suit individual needs, it’s very good way to mask the tinnitus at night when it’s always at its loudest and generally help with sleep
Fingers crossed your daughter feels better soon
Ok so I have an update! Just back from the ENT consultant. Long story short he said he has seen 3 patients today who have been for micro suction that needed additional help. Thankfully he said that the micro suction people had left the wax on her ear drum as this would have been too delicate for them to touch. Thank goodness. Anyway, he managed to clear what was on the drum and she can hear again! He also said that she had hair wrapped around her ear drum! She has in the past wore wax ear plug and he said that might have caused it! Very random. Anyway, still a little buzzing but not as loud. Hopefully this will fade. Fingers crossed 😊
Thanks great news 😊😊
Hi.... I can honestly say that every post I read about micro suction has left the person with tinnitus !! .. I had it done 11days ago and I am the same, loud ringing in left ear, drove me crazy yesterday🤦🏻♀️.. some people say it will diminish over time , and some people say they are stuck with it ... I feel for your daughter.... 😔
Personally I find that micro suction does not affect the T at all. And it’s the only way I can get wax cleared so that I can hear again, so I’m a big big fan.
Hello,
I am very sorry that this has happened to you and your daughter..
My son has had the same problem. He used olive oil and had microsuction, it can take time for the eardrum to completely heal if she's had impacted ear wax. Eardrums has tiny blood vessels and they can become bruised
My sons tinnitus
finally went after four months!
Have you tried an app called the most powerful tinnitus sound therapy on YouTube, its very good in taking the tinnitus away when it's playing, use headphones with low level tinnitus app.
If it doesn't go away I would see your gp and ask to be referd to the tinnitus clinic...
Please stay positive!
I wish your daughter well and hope she gets better soon x
