Vestibular Migraine & Tinnitus

Very long story short, finally had a diagnosis of vestibular migraine. I suffer migraine aura's (visual disturbance and vertigo) and photophobia but do not get the crushing headache. For a long time I've been telling every doctor I've seen that the tinnitus also gets worse when I suffer a migraine but has anyone listened ,! Now 6 weeks into a diet and lifestyle changes recommended for vestibular disorders and I cannot believe how much my tinnitus has improved. It's still there but at such a low level that other than in a very quiet environment I don't notice it. I don't think it is purely coincidence. Just thought I would share.

I think your story is a perfect example of why we have to take responsibility for finding out as much as possible about our health conditions......our GP. Just don't have enough knowledge or time these days. They are fine with basic conditions but when more than one health problem is linked... well, your guess is as good as mine or the next person's.

Reading the many problems people post about the medication they have been prescribed and eventually trying to get off for various reasons is another concern. Certain medications can interact and cause other problems. It really is a minefield.

. Id just like to say, well done, for eventually finding the answer yourself, to your problems. I salute you and wish you well. Chrys

So pleased you are getting things sorted. What changes have you made to your life style and diet that is helping?

Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm basically follwing a healthy heart diet (DASH diet)

I've reducded my salt intake to 2g per day and I've cut out completely the following:

Coffee

Sugar and sweeteners

Alcohol

Aged cheese (hard cheese, brie, parmesan etc)

Red meat

Processed foods as these are generally high in salt and preservatives

I've swapped high fat foods for healthier options:

I eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, but only 2 of these are fruit.

Fish at least twice a week as well as chicken and turkey, but I do have meat free days which has been suprisingly easy.

Whole grain bread, no white and have swapped potatoes for rice where possible.

I drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. I also drink caffine free fruit teas.

I eat regular small meals at the same time each day with healthy snacks in between.

I walk 4 times a week for 45 minutes each time, I walk briskly unti breathing is harder but can still speak and not in any pain

It's not easy to begin with and takes some weekly planning but the reduction in migraine and tinnitus are well worth it. Plus I've lost a bit of weight.

Regards
