How do any of you who suffer with the head noise part of tinnitus ignore it? Unless I’m in a cinema/restaurant I can hear it, droning away in the background. Also, has anyone hawked to be re-refered back to ENT? My consultant was pretty sh*t (got the piece of dry skin of my ear drum and thrusted a leaflet about tinnitus in my hand & signed me off) and I recently went along with my husband to his ENT appointment at a different hospital & I mentioned what my problem was and how I felt I had been treated (hubby backed me up as he had come to my appointment) and his consultant said I was within my rights to ask for a second opinion. I’m quite nervous asking my doctor to refer me again as I’ve only recently got my MRI results back (after having it in August) to be told it was ‘wear and tear’ for him to maybe not refer me again

Head noise
Hi Farmerwife,
I think we have all experienced the same dismissive attitude by consultants towards tinnitus and have more or less been written off, as they don't have a "cure" for the condition. I have had T for about three years now and the head noises are very difficult to ignore. However, over time, they do become less intrusive as you get accustomed to hearing them but they are always there, doing their thing in the background. Mine is age related and I have high frequency hearing loss so my head noise is a high pitched hissing with a dentist's drill going at the same time. I got two hearing aids through the NHS and they have helped quite a bit. They amplify all the sounds around you and push the head noise into the background. When I have them in, I can still hear the tinnitus but not so loud as it would be without them. Next time you're ar ENT make enquiries about them. To buy privately, they can be very costly. I hope you find some peace soon. Best wishes.
Hi,as I'm writing this,I'm hearing loud screeching in my head the same as you describe, the TV is on and it does nothing to alleviate the T,I have a set of bone conduction headphones, these don't go into the ears so you can wear them to listen to whatever you want to (but you can hear what is going on around you),at a lower setting to your T.i wear mine at work(with my employers permission, having been to Occ health)but I find listening to nature sounds works for me,lowers the T but also calming.
I hope this helps
