Don't not fear it

From reading lots of your stories I’ve concluded that fear is at heart of your worries.

Remember it’s only a noise inside your head and it will not kill you or send you mad.

My advice is accept it because there is no present cure or magic wand. The longer you have it , your fear will diminish. I’ve had it really loud now for 30 years.

Some evenings I don’t sleep a wink because I’m vulnerable ( have to take it as can’t occupy my brain in work or stuff. It’s neurones inside the brain that need wiring up

Correctly but as yet nobody knows how to do it. So just say f- - k it I’m not going to let the sound of a boiling kettle ruin my life.

All say “accept it”. Easy said but know that’s best way...

Accepting that I have it (7 months now 😐) is one of the things that helped me. I’ve put up a few things and comments about how I cope using distraction but acceptance was a major part.

Every doc ent person that I spoke to said things like “it could still go if you’re lucky” so I’d go to sleep (eventually) and wake up the next day with my ear demon ringing in the day and it just made it more depressing and so I just decided that I’m gonna have it for life and removing that constant hope of waking up and hearing silence has taken the fear of it away. I do swear by distractions though.

I’m walking more and more to distract myself. Had a four and a half hour walk just the other day. Took a book and read in the park. The walk tends to take the volume so low and reading aloud is a great way to ignore it even if you look crazy lol. I play video games etc. So accepting that it’s my theme tune and distraction is a big step towards habituation at least for me.

(Left ear. Ear infection. Volume level 6-7 out of 10 but can be a 3 with distractions).

Walking helps me as well especially in park rather than noisy places

Parks I’m good with. Even the loud noises I’m okay with as long as it isn’t high pitched noises those send me screaming lol.

A boiling kettle? Is that all you have? Try a full head screaming with high pitch noise and both ears full of a swarm of crickets, and it never, ever lets up- all I ever think of is a rope and how I'm supposed to tie it to end it quickly- what a shit life!

It is a hard life and you’re not alone ...I wonder what have I done to deserve this

Hi, I’m glad to have found this forum. I had found swimming, specifically floating and being submerged stopping tinnitus immediately. A small respite from the noise and wonderful sound of silence, even momentarily. I also found some relief in V.A. (Veterans Administration in the states) online tools for combat GI’s exposed to extreme shelling and mortar fire. Technique is to, like you said, accept the ringing and focus on it. It does have an impact, as to focus the brain on one stimulus tends to reduce the intensity. I’m going on four years, and no doctors have helped.
