Tinnitus Retraining Theropy (TRT)

I read an article today in the Daily Mail by Vik Veer a Consultant ENT Surgeon who says he beat his Tinnitus by creating his own TRT. He says in came down to concentrating on something else than his tinnitus and used a TV on subtitles whilst in bed as one of his methods which over a few days his tinnitus started to subside.

Does anyone on this forum have experience of TRT the methods they used and the results?
