NHS Hearing Aids

Has anyone been supplied with hearing aids with inbuilt masking sound by the NHS?

If so how did this come about.

The reason I ask is because I no such hearing aids would benefit dealing with my Tinnitus.

I have an appointment with the local NHS audiologist and want to make the best case.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there.

Just been to see the audiologist and I asked him about my tinnitus and he said he would make an urgent appointment for me to see somebody in hearing to do with a really tiny hearing aid but with a difference.

From what I gathered is that it makes a different sound but one to tune up and down with the frequency.

He said they don’t give them out that easily but as I’ve a growth pressing on some nerves to do with tinnitus he would let me try one out.

I didn’t freely totally understand what he said as I was totally gobsmacked at what he had told me before I had asked.

The audiologist said something about it works better for ppl if they have more or less one tone of tinnitus if that makes sense.

I’ll try find out a little bit more info if you like.

Good luck mate

I was supplied with hearing aids fitted with masking noises last month and I got them as I had previously requested a hearing test with NHS audiologist. Previously I only had one hearing aid that was no longer fit for purpose in distraction of T sounds. I knew of masking sounds hearing aids and requested these when I rang up to get my appointment. Result was that my hearing loss had deteriorated slightly and the audiologist agreed to try these aids straight away so I had no problems in obtaining them. So far so good as I feel that they help me much better than before although my T is obviously still here. I now hear sounds more clearly and I get out more as a result so I now have more distractions with sounds of nature and traffic. My life is a lot calmer and I hope you feel the same too after your appointment. Lots of good luck!
