Polite Request for Help/Dancing & Managing Noise Levels in Smaller Venues

PositiveSolutions profile image

Good Afternoon All,

Polite request for help/advice please. I have had tinnitus for a couple of years & on the whole (mainly thanks to my local support group) I have managed rather well...Thank You to everyone.

Basically I have managed to work out (via advise & trial & error) that I can still attend various concerts including larger stadium concerts & theatre without any major issues, as long as I wear professional ear plugs & keep away from the main speakers, I'm fine & there is no lasting effect.

I also like to dance & in particular jive & lindy hop. The venues for such social dances are usually small, like a social club or church hall size. I have been to a couple of social dances & at most of the venues the music (usually a DJ & not a live band) is so loud that you have shout to have a conversation with the person next to you. Requests to the DJ to lower the volume of the music are usually acknowledged but rarely actioned.

I can wear ear plugs to the social dances, that means I can dance without fear of my tinnitus getting worst but cannot hold a conversation with anyone as part of the social element.

Does anyone have any advice for a solutions or the possible effects, if I don't wear ear plus to such social dances?

Many Thanks in Advance.

Darren ;)

Logically, if you can’t hear the person you are trying to converse with over the music with your pro earplugs in, you won’t be able to hear them when you aren’t wearing them

If you then go to an environment where you can converse, then the volume of the music probably won’t be loud enough to be a problem anyway.
