Early Days but here’s hoping. . . .

Finally had my appointment today with NHS Audiologist and my hearing test showed a slight deterioration from my last test 6/7 years ago. I was provided with 2 hearing aids with masking sounds downloaded into them and I opted for white noise over pink noise. Both aids were fitted and I’ve worn them since my appointment 3 hours ago. I now hear everything around me very clearly though the masking noise will take a bit of getting used to. When I stepped outside of the hospital I kept turning around and looking where the sounds were coming from. Of course it soon dawned on me it was the sound of my shoes on the ground. At the bus stop I heard a bird chirping and was convinced it was above my head but it was yards away and on roof of the hospital. Now home I’m hearing sounds never experienced before or at least not for a very long time. I’m not kidded that these aids are a godsend and the audiologist never promised me a miracle cure but it’s so far so good for me. I have a follow up appointment on 15 August so I’ll know better then if I’ve settled in to my new hearing world. Oh the tinnitus is still clearly there but at the moment I now have more distracting sounds. Here’s hoping I can enjoy life just a little bit better than before!

Thats great. Im so pleased they are making a positive difference already. I have my first audiologist appt on Fri (never had a hearing test before). Heres hoping its as positive and helpful as yours appears to have been. Genuinely chuffed for you 👍

Good luck with your appointment on Friday and I hope your audiologist is as useful towards your needs as mine was today. A few hours on and I’m getting used to the new aids already. Best wishes Shell.
