At my wits end

Hi, I have had tinnitus on and off for years but in July last year I was admitted to hospital with a suspected stroke.

Since then I've had it constantly 24/7 and in last couple of weeks I've gone deaf in the same ear as the tinnitus.

I went to see ENT consultant on Friday 23rd fab and he's sending me for a scan and getting a noise generating hearing aid.

I can't cope with the noise it's driving me mad, I just want to cut my head off 😕

Hi Trish,

It's a very scary time when you first get loud intrusive tinnitus. It's natural to feel depressed, anxious and worried about what the future may hold. We all go through this stage but it doesn't last forever. The first couple of months are the worst and then things will very slowly start to get better. In time you should be able to live a normal life and not be overly bothered by your T. For the most part you won't hear it at all. It'll still be there but you will have learnt to ignore it. One of our members here has written a short book on his journey with tinnitus and I can recommend it to all new sufferers. You can find it here..

Hope it helps.
