Hi, My gp suspects I have Menieres or similar with BPPV and has prescribed Beta histone. I have concerns as I am super allergic to various things including some medications. I take zyrtec/cetrizine daily as it is year round. And in Summer or if in an attack I take an additional medicine. Im afraid to take Betahistine with my history of allergies .
My dizzy story: It all started with Labrynthitis in September after severe allergies for a week or so and then a cold. I had Spinning Vertigo attacks every few hours daily. This every few hours element went away after 3 weeks, that said I had some ear wooshing after and a fuzzy head feeling. I also had occasional Vertigo start if I bent down or looked up.
Come Boxing Day, I awoke to severe spinning which has been continuous since ever time I lay down, turn in my sleep, turn my head wrong, sometimes even watching TV. I have ringing and ear pressure along with a fuzzy headache 24/7 with attacks sometimes hourly and I've tried Epley about 20 times. It is so bad I cry each time I do the maneuver, but after an hour of it giving me less pressure/ringing it comes back.
My GP now thinks I have Menieres in both ears - as both ring, etc. with fluid Hydrops and BPPV. Does anyone have experience with similar using Betahistine whole being allergic to varous things?
I look forward to hearing from you soon ...

Hi photostar I understand how you feel vertigo is a dreadful disease I have suffered with Menieres for 17years and in the first few years my life changed completely I was sent for different tests, mri scan etc and given different tablets (cinnarezene, stemetil ) for the dizziness then one night I was that bad I could not stop vomiting I couldn’t breath I just couldn’t get out of bed without crawling on my hands and knees and I was taken into hospital and that is when I was diagnosed with Ménière’s disease they prescribed betahistine 16 ml 3 times a day it took about a month before I noticed any difference after all this time I still have days when my tinnitus is very loud and the dizziness comes back but nothing like in the beginning. You need your GP to send you for tests to get a proper diagnosis and if it is menieres then you can get the right medication believe me it does get easier to live with some people have to take higher doses than 16 ml but this has been fine for me hope you get sorted out soon
Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.
Betahistine is often prescribed for people who are experiencing dizziness along with their tinnitus, and it is regarded as safe and well tolerated. Your pharmacist is a good person to talk to about drugs and any possible interactions though.
The Menieres Society should also be able to advise.
Warmest wishes
