Labs coming tomorrow and I have, since 2013, always had FT3 done. occasionally dr. wants to throw in TT3. I put TT3 & labs for thyroid in search, but it did not pinpoint the answer for which I am looking. This time endo says, oh, we'll do TotalT3 this time instead of FT3! What am I learning from TT3? My memory tells me the #s from TT3 are irrelevant.
Thank you!

There has been a very questionable idea that TT3 is somehow more stable, less variable than FT3.
But FT3 is actually fairly stable anyway.
And the difference between FT3 and TT3 very much depends on the levels of binding proteins in your blood. Which are affected by several non-thyroid things including your genetic make-up and hormones like oestrogen.
If previous tests have been for FT3, then doing a TT3 obviously means there is no meaningful basis for comparing the result fo this test with previous tests.
