Thyroid ultrasound

I've had my thyroid ultrasound done and the report says I have a very small gland. Smaller than average.

Does this suggest less activity? Has anyone else been diagnosed with a smaller than usual thyroid gland

Yes, and yes. It probably means that you have Ord's thyroiditis. Ord's is the same as Hashi's but without the goitre. Have you had your antibodies tested: TPO and Tg antibodies?

Tg antibodies are important because Ord's people very often have high TgAB even though TPOab are negative. Doctors don't know that.

I had high TgAB, with TPOab just over-range. And an ultrasound found that my thyroid was very small. But I was just told I was hypo and had to work the rest out for myself.

Have you had TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested? They will show you how much activity your thyroid is capable of.
